5 Static Semantics: Early Errors

ModuleExportName:StringLiteral
  1. Let string be the result of evaluating StringLiteral.
  2. If IsValidUnicode(string) is false, throw a SyntaxError exception.

6 Static Semantics: IsValidUnicode( string )

The abstract operation IsValidUnicode takes an argument string ( a String ). It interprets string as a sequence of UTF-16 encoded code points, as described in 6.1.4, and returns if it is a complete valid UTF-16 sequence. It performs the following steps when called:

  1. Let strLen be the number of code units in string.
  2. Let k be 0.
  3. Repeat,
    1. If k equals strLen, return.
    2. Let cp be ! CodePointAt(string, k).
    3. If cp.[[IsUnpairedSurrogate]] is true, return false.
    4. Set k to k + cp.[[CodeUnitCount]].
  4. Return true.
